This Year's Highlights

  • John R. MacDonald, PhD, joins as VP of R&D, and Director. In 2005, MacDonald retired from MGI Pharma where he was Sr. VP of R&D. Prior research posts include Parke-Davis and UCSF Medical School. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology.
  • May 05, Our scientists discovered the mechanism of action for PTX008. The drug prevents angiogenically active endothelial cells from migrating to the tumor and adhering to the extracellular matrix, causing apoptosis. A patent application has been filed.
  • Aug 05, Dr. Kevin Mayo has received a 4-year grant from the NIH under the Bio-defense intiative to further study and develop the PepTx antibacteral molecules.

Anticipated Highlights

  • PepTx will announce a broad based strategic collaboaration and investment agreement with a pharmaceutical company on certain of its oncology drug leads.
  • PepTx will out-licensing certain drug leads in its anti-infective portfolio. These drug leads kill a broad range of Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria, including Anthrax and drug resistant Staphylococcus in in-vitro and in-vivo studies.
  • PepTx plans Phase I clinical trials on PTX008 in Dec 06. The trials, at the U of Minnesota will focus on non-small cell lung cancer and renal carcinoma patients who will receive PTX008 in combination with standard radiation and chemotherapy.

Corporate Mission

Peptides and their small molecule topomimetics will replace proteins as therapeutics over time. Our mission is to be a leader in this technological advance.

Driven by the ongoing work and discovery of promising pharmaceutics in the laboratory of Prof. K. H. Mayo, PepTx, Inc. (a St. Paul, Minnesota-based biotechnology company) is developing and commercializing novel peptides, partial peptide mimetics and non-peptidic ?small molecules? for the oncology and anti-infective markets.

PepTx has chosen to focus primarily on oncology and has developed a proprietary anti-cancer drug, PTX008. PTX008 is a third generation, small molecule mimetic of PTX001 (Anginex) and PTX004, PepTx?s pathway-validated drug leads that target a novel extracellular molecule, galectin-1. By targeting galectin-1, which is crucial to the growth of tumors, the family of PTX001, PTX004 and PTX008 has proven to be powerful stand-alone angiostatic agents and highly effective as adjunctive therapy in combination with radiation therapy and chemotherapy in the treatment of tumors. PTX008 is only one of over 20 peptide, peptidomimetic, and small molecule drug leads that PepTx has licensed under a broad technology transfer agreement with the University of Minnesota.

The Company?s secondary focus is on the anti-infective market, and the Company has produced several promising anti-microbial leads. However, at this time, PepTx intends to concentrate efforts on advancing its anti-cancer program and intends to out-license its portfolio of anti-microbial agents at the earliest opportunity.

PepTx is seeking $6 million in equity financing to prepare for and conduct a Phase I clinical study for its lead product, PTX008. The study is expected to commence within 18 months from the closing of this financing, and the study would be complete within 6 months from its initiation.
